Helden und Idole – Lichter im Dunkeln

(Öl, Teer, Gouache, Lack auf Wellpappe auf Holz)

In dieser Serie zeige ich Personen, die sich mutig entschlossen für Frieden, Aufklärung und Menschenrechte mit ihrem ganzen Leben einsetzen bzw. gekämpft haben. Ich reduziere Licht und Schatten auf extreme hell-dunkel Kontraste und übertrage sie auf Wellpappe, wobei die Deckschicht teilweise entfernt wird. Die darunter liegenden Wellen spielen ihrerseits mit Licht und Schatten und öffnen eine weitere Dimension in die Tiefe. Durch die Reduktion erschließen sich die Porträts zum Teil erst auf den zweiten Blick, was zum Suchen und Finden einlädt. 

Heroes and Icons – Lights in the Dark

In this series I depict courageous persons, who fought resolutely and/or risked their lives for peace, human rights and non-violent civil disobedience. I reduce light and shadow to hard black and white contrasts and transfer the result to corrugated cardboard by removing some of the cover layer. The corrugated texture below also plays with light and shadow and opens the portrait to another dimension in the depths. Due to the reduction, the portraits often don't reveal themselves at first sight, this invites the viewer to search and find.
